About the quote
The quote “Πάντα ῥεῖ” (Pánta rhei – Everything flows) is attributed to Heraklitus. He was a Greek who lived in the 6th to 5th century BC in Ephesus, in Ionia of Asia Minor. He allegedly wrote a book entitled About Nature. Few fragments have survived, which have an enigmatic style; hence the designation “dark philosopher”.
In his philosophy, Heraclitus introduces the concept of “lógos“, a term meaning that everything in the world happens in a logical way, according to a strict law of nature. Ηe is also known for the idea of constant change, as a law governing the universe.
The quote “τὰ πάντα ῥεῖ και ουδέν μένει”, in its entirety, meaning “Everything flows and nothing stands still”, is one of the best-known ancient Greek sayings.
