About the quote
The quote ΣΟΦΟΝ ΤΟ ΣΑΦΕΣ (Sofón to safés) is attributed to Chilon of Sparta (600 – 520 BC). He was an Ancient Greek Spartan politician, legislator, philosopher and elegiac poet. Chilon composed about two hundred epics; out of these, however, only a few of his proverbs have survived.
In an age when the compactness of speech was remarkable, and teaching was expressed in quotations or “in short verbs”, Chilon was distinguished for his wise epigrammatic shortology; he is mentioned as one of the Seven Sages of Antiquity.
“Sofón to safés” means “Clarity is wisdom”.
