About the quote
The phrase «Οὐδὲν κακὸν ἀμιγὲς καλοῦ» (Uthén kakón amigés kalu) is a well-known proverb from the classical period of Greece. It means that there is nothing entirely bad; which does not contain something good within it.
Of course, the reverse is also true. Just as there is nothing unpleasant that does not also have pleasant aspects, there is no pleasant thing without a price. It also describes the way the human mind perceives things in relation to its own interests, as the same event may be favorable for someone and ominous for another.
It is one of the most useful essences of philosophy for everyday life, and thus, the meaning of the saying has been expressed in various ways by all the cultures around the world. The English say “every cloud has a silver lining,” and the Chinese have delivered us the priceless Yin-Yang.
About the design
The design follows the spirit of the script, defining a square with its characters that geometrically refers to the balance within the contrast of the circle and the square.
Specifically, the area of the square formed by the glyphs is equal to π (approximately 3.14…) times the area of the circle, while also, the diameter of the circle inscribed in the square of the glyphs is half the diameter of the larger circle!
